The Initiative for Peace was a tailor-made communication programme designed to raise awareness on the impact of fake news and to strengthen societal resilience in global security architecture. It involved key opinion formers, video bloggers and public opinion figures, with different backgrounds and different target audiences, having a total coverage of roughly 90% of the Romanian audience living in urban areas.

The event was the first one of its kind organized in Romania and consisted of two parts: the first part covered debates and roundtable discussions regarding the importance of educating their audiences in respect to propaganda and disinformation, while the second part gathered a group of influencers in Brussels in order to attend briefings, take interviews and create written/video content for their social media channels.

This event was organized as part of the #WeAreNATO campaign and created the ground for integrated communication among key opinion formers, video bloggers and public opinion figures. Moreover, it contributed to build bridges of communication between their channels, public institutions and international organizations.

The importance of promoting fact checking and educating people on the long term is key for more resilient communities and societies. New technologies come with emergent risks, thus adaptation, awareness and engagement are required for countering disinformation.
